The Artists
Kwabena Nature, popularly known as Kwabnat, is a self-taught portrait artist whose real name is Albert Kwabena Adabo. He was born on 1st August 1989 and raised in Tema, Ghana, where he also holds citizenship. From a very young age, his artistic talent began to show. At the age of 10years, his parents noticed the small illustrations he often drew in his school books. Recognizing his natural ability, they encouraged him to pursue art, and many people around him supported and believed in his potential and capabilities.
By the age of 15years, Kwabnat had started painting on his own. As a self-taught artist with a deep passion for art, he developed his skills through dedication and constant practice. His first oil painting on canvas was sold to a neighbor, an experience that motivated him to take his art more seriously. He later worked as a freelance artist from 2004 to 2006, building experience and confidence in his craft.
In 2006, he moved from his parents’ home to live with his grandfather, Polycarp Anderson, who became a strong mentor and supporter in his artistic journey. It was during this time that he established his first art studio. His grandfather and friends often called him “Kwabena Nature,” while others shortened it to “Kwabnat.”The name Nature was given to him by his grandfather because of his natural talent and the realistic quality of his artworks.
Kwabnat’s greatest ambition is to become recognized as one of the best hyperrealistic portrait artists in the world. Beyond personal success, he also hopes to inspire and support upcoming artists, playing a meaningful role in nurturing the next generation of creatives.
He received his secondary education at Tema Methodist Day Senior High School from 2006 to 2009. After completing high school, he further developed his creative and technical skills at IPMC College of Technology in 2009, where he studied Graphic Design and Website Designing, earning a diploma.
Kwabnat is a curious and versatile artist who enjoys exploring different areas within the artistic world. During exhibitions, he particularly enjoys live drawing, where he can connect directly with people and showcase his skill in real time. Although he works with different mediums, he expresses himself most deeply through pencil drawing, which has become one of his strongest artistic forms.
Although he initially focused mainly on **painting**, Kwabnat later became highly inspired by renowned artists such as **Kelvin Okafor**, **J.D. Hillberry**, **Clio Newton**, **Omar Ortiz**, **Simon Hennessy**, and **Charles Geong**. Their work influenced his journey toward **hyperrealistic portraiture**.
Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to **exhibit his artworks in various parts of Ghana**, sharing his passion with a wider audience. Today, Kwabnat works professionally as a **portrait painter, pencil artist, and graphic designer**, continuing to refine his craft and expand his influence in the art world.
